3 things I covet for but will never get this Spring Summer 2009

1. The Balmain Military Jacket. Price: US$11, 410.
It was seen on Beyonce, Victoria Beckham and Rihanna. The padded shoulder of the jacket sharpens and accentuates the silhouette and since it draws attention to the upper part of the body. I prefer the version in lighter color, making the entire look less harsh.



2. DKNY Sneaker heels. Price: Approx S$400
I always preferred street wear over high fashion. If I had the choice, I would wear sneakers to work everyday. I can't, and if I could have something like that, I'll be able to wear sneakers everyday and still look acceptable. This first caught my eye in a magazine fashion spread. Before I knew it, it was also in every other local fashion magazine.
I just saw two pairs of these at the DKNY counter at Isetan Scotts a few hours ago. One of it is in colorful print (the first pair in the series of four above) Lurve!!




3. Long flowing hair. Price: Don't Know..
See the image of the girl in band FIR above.. That's the hair I want for the longest time..... but my ends are so dried its almost impossible to happen by end of this year. Hair stylists are usually in disgust when they see my hair, a massive mop of split ends.

The Harem pants

Gucci has it this Fall/Winter '08, YSL has it this season and the trend spills to Spring/Summer '09, LV also has it in the current collection.
I would never imagine myself seeing anybody wearing it on the streets though.

The harem pants, also what Singaporeans call "Ali baba pants", are cut VERY loosely from the butt down to thigh area and depending on the length of pants, it is usually tapered at the end, fitted at either the calves or ankles.

Like I said, I would never expect any usual girl on the street to don these pants, unless they had the height of Elle Macpherson or the waif figure of Kate Moss.

Two of my friends proved me wrong.

The first friend, was Irenaus, an interior designer. She had on a pair which was three-quarter long, with a basic tee and sneakers. Totally casual, and none of that OTT -ness like what you see on the YSL FW'08 runway. She carried it off real well and she's the average Singaporean girl size! Not too skinny, not too big, not too tall or short and definitely not Supermodel! Very cool. She was going for the comfy, yet unconventional look.

She got them at Tiong Bahru Plaza apparently - I didn't think I could find another friend wearing harem pants after that.

I was so wrong.

Alex bowled me over, leaving my eyes glued to her bottom when I met her for lunch on Friday. I couldn't take my eyes off her pants and I finally convinced her for a picture!

She's shy.. The pants are not just the usual lycra, it has this shimmery sheen, a nice touch to the look.
From afar, I thought she was wearing really a nice long skirt.

I was quite surprised when Alex said she got those pants from Zara at $39 last season. Overall, her look was like a mystic fashion rebel with great taste. After all, she IS a fashion marketing student from La Salle.


So I wonder now, when's the next time I'll spot another daring soul sporting these Alibaba pants. Incidentally, both Irenaus and Alex are from design colleges. Maybe it is an arty-farty thing to carry it off, so the next time it might be some bold arts student or professionals in the creative field wearing these quirky pants.

Dangerous heels this season

I have never been a heels person. I swear by Vans and Onitsuka Tigers, if I can help it.
I could never understand the excitement of friends that shriek at the thought of Charles & Keith sale, or why they would spend on sky-high Nine West heels. I also wondered why women could get pairs and pairs of shoes week after week.

Then something happened. I became a woman. (sort of.)

My wardrobe became less androgynous, less kid-punk, and more feminine. I needed pumps, heels and sandals fit for the ladies to go with different looks: corporate, boho, lolita, rock-glam, sweet and more. I would never know what unexpected surprises could spring forth, thus that gave me an excuse - to buy more shoes.

Since the start of this year, I've had at least 7 new pairs of footwear, including running shoes. It is a personal record for me, since I've never been a shoes person at all. However, as I recall, only two of these are real heels, only barely two inches each. I could never walk properly, or rather I don't have enough balls(not that I have any) to wear anything more than 2 inches.

And despite its calf-lengthening qualities, I doubt any of these killers will come under my feet anytime soon. Even models trip on them! Watch models fall - here and here.

How do these amazing women strut around in their heels! I suffered a severe ankle sprain once when I scrambled down half a flight of stairs. That was a nightmare. And these heels above, these are absolute nightmare!
